01 — The Challenge

A trusted local trade,
with no digital front door.

Tamayo & Osorio is a family-run construction, remodelling and professional cleaning business operating right across the Algarve. Like many established trades, their reputation had been built entirely on word of mouth and repeat clients — but they had no website, no dedicated business email, and no way for a prospective customer to reach them or request a quote outside of a phone call.

The business serves both Portuguese and international clients along the coast — a region with a significant expat and holiday-home population — so any new site needed to speak to both audiences fluently, not as an afterthought.

Running a business website in Portugal also triggers legal obligations that don't apply to a phone-only operation — from GDPR data handling to the mandatory Electronic Complaints Book. Meeting the brief meant the site had to look the part and stand up to regulatory scrutiny from day one.

Where they were starting from
  • No website at all — the business was invisible to anyone searching online
  • Enquiries relied entirely on phone calls and word-of-mouth referrals
  • Client communication ran through a personal, generic email address
  • No way for customers to request a quote, leave a review, or find the business out of hours
  • None of the Portuguese and EU legal requirements for a public-facing business site were in place
  • The Algarve's large international market was effectively being turned away
Before & After
Before — Phone-only
  • No website or online presence
  • Personal, generic email address
  • Enquiries by phone call only
  • No analytics or visibility
  • Not legally compliant online
After — Deben Digital build
  • Bilingual PT / EN website
  • Branded business email domain
  • Direct-to-inbox quote form
  • Consent-gated Google Analytics
  • Fully GDPR & PT-law compliant
The core insight

The reputation was already there — the trust, the referrals, the quality of work. What was missing was a credible, compliant digital front door that matched it. Close that gap and the business becomes reachable, searchable and quotable by a far wider audience.

02 — What We Built & Why It Matters

Every feature earns its place.

Nothing on the site is decorative. Each feature below was included to solve a specific commercial, legal or trust problem — here's what it does and the value it adds.

01
Bilingual Landing Page · PT / EN

One site, two audiences, no compromise

The entire site — navigation, service descriptions, forms and legal copy — was built with a live language toggle between Portuguese and English, rather than a separate translated page bolted on afterwards.

Why it matters: The Algarve has one of the highest concentrations of international residents and holiday-home owners in Portugal. A Portuguese-only site quietly turns away a large share of the realistic customer base. Offering both languages natively signals professionalism to every visitor and widens the pool of people who can enquire without friction.

02
Custom Business Email Domain

A branded inbox instead of a personal address

We set the business up with a professional email address on their own domain, replacing reliance on a personal or generic free-mail account for client communication.

Why it matters: A branded email address is one of the fastest, cheapest signals of legitimacy a small business can send. For a construction company quoting on jobs that run into thousands of euros, arriving in a client's inbox from a proper company domain rather than a personal account materially improves trust before a single word is read.
03
Direct-to-Inbox Quote Request Form

Enquiries land where the business already works

The on-page quote form captures the customer's name, contact details, service required and message, and delivers it straight to the Tamayo & Osorio inbox — no separate portal or dashboard to log into.

Why it matters: Every extra step between a visitor and sending an enquiry is a chance to lose them. A form that submits instantly and arrives where the owners already check their messages means faster response times and fewer missed leads — turning casual browsing into booked jobs.

04
GDPR-Compliant Privacy Policy

Clear terms on how customer data is handled

A dedicated privacy policy sets out who is responsible for the data collected through the site, how it's used, and confirms the visitor's right to complain to Portugal's data protection authority, the CNPD, if they have concerns.

Why it matters: Any website that collects personal data — even a simple contact form — is legally required to explain how that data is handled under GDPR. Beyond compliance, a visible, clearly written policy reassures customers that a business handling their name, phone number and home address takes that responsibility seriously.

05
Cookie Consent Banner

Analytics only load once a visitor agrees

A cookie banner greets first-time visitors and lets them accept or decline non-essential cookies. Analytics tracking is only activated after explicit consent is given — it does not load silently in the background.

Why it matters: This is a legal requirement, not a nice-to-have — running tracking cookies without consent exposes a business to GDPR and ePrivacy enforcement. Gating the tracking script behind a genuine accept/decline choice lets the business measure performance without putting itself at compliance risk.

06
Google Analytics Integration

Visibility into who's visiting and what's working

Google Analytics was installed — and consent-gated as above — so the business can see how many people visit, which pages and services attract the most attention, and how visitors are finding them.

Why it matters: Without this, a website is a black box. This data lets future decisions — what to promote, what to change — be based on evidence rather than guesswork, and shows whether a flyer, a Facebook post or a referral is actually translating into visits.
07
Livro de Reclamações Eletrónico

A Portuguese legal requirement, built in from day one

Portuguese law requires businesses with a public-facing website to display a visible link to the national Electronic Complaints Book, letting any customer lodge a formal complaint routed to both the business and the relevant regulator. We built the requirement into the design and placed a clearly labelled link in the footer.

Why it matters: This isn't optional — non-compliance carries fines from €150 to €15,000. Beyond avoiding penalties, having it visibly and correctly in place signals to customers and regulators alike that Tamayo & Osorio runs a properly organised, above-board business.

08
Client's Own Brand, Properly Applied

Their colours, their identity — professionally executed

Rather than imposing a generic template, the site was built around Tamayo & Osorio's own navy and red identity, service icons, and photography of completed work — giving them a site that looks distinctly like their business.

Why it matters: A site that looks like every other local trades template does little to build memorability or trust. Building around the client's established colours and real project photography makes it feel authentically theirs, and helps it stand out against competitors still relying on a Facebook page or no presence at all.

03 — The Outcome

What this added up to for Tamayo & Osorio.

A phone-only trade now has a professional, bilingual, fully compliant home online — reachable by the whole Algarve market and built to convert interest into enquiries.

A credible first impression

A professional site and branded email replaced word-of-mouth-only trading, giving prospective clients a proper digital front door before they ever pick up the phone.

A wider, bilingual audience

English and Portuguese visitors are served natively, opening the business up to the Algarve's substantial expat and international property-owner market.

Compliant, not just functional

GDPR privacy terms, consent-gated analytics and the mandatory Complaints Book link mean the site meets Portuguese and EU legal obligations — not just design expectations.
